UK-wide
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) guide on data protection
England and Wales
The Information Governance Alliance’s (IGA) Records Management Code of Practice for Health and Social Care 2016.
Appendix 3 of the Code contains the detailed retention schedules, setting out how long records should be retained, either due to their ongoing administrative value or as a result of statutory requirement.
Please be aware, the Records Management Code of Practice 2016 is soon to be replaced by the Records Management Code of Practice 2020. We will keep this page under review and update this content when this goes live.
Scotland
The Scottish Government Records Management Health and Social Care Code of Practice (Scotland) 2020.
Northern Ireland
The Department of Health in Northern Ireland produces a Good Management Good Records resource which includes advice and guidance on records management including a retention and disposal schedule.
