We’re excited to share a new suite of resources designed to provide additional support and clarity for experienced registrants, as well as their managers and strategic leaders.
Commissioned by NHS England and developed in partnership with the General Osteopathic Council, these materials have been shaped directly by the voices of registrants, managers, professional bodies, academics and leaders across the system. They address how HCPC standards are met while working at advanced levels of practice, with a particular focus on scope of practice, supervision and delegation.
The resources aim to ensure that existing regulatory frameworks effectively support registrants and managers to deliver safe, high-quality and person-centred care across diverse and evolving settings.
What can I expect from the resources?
We designed a comprehensive set of practical resources in various formats to meet different learning needs and preferences, including:
- new downloadable resources, such as a Shared Update on the regulation of advanced levels of practice and a reflective template to help define and explain your scope of practice;
- new web content created specifically to support the understanding of advanced levels of practice;
- enhanced web content to improve clarity and ensure relevance to current professional practice;
- access to webinar recordings and slide packs to support CPD activities; and
- signposts to further guidance and resources, including examples from professional bodies and other organisations.
The resources cover a wide range of topics and provide clarity to registrants, managers, employers and the wider system on key messages, including that:
- all HCPC registrants are fully regulated at all levels of practice;
- service user safety is a shared responsibility between registrants, regulators, employers, professional bodies, unions and others; and
- the HCPC does not set or limit the scope of practice for registrants, and registrants must use their professional judgement to work within their scope to ensure safe, lawful and effective practice.
Who are the resources for?
The content is aimed at supporting experienced registrants and their managers to better understand how our standards apply at advanced levels. It captures the experiences of registrants and managers in different sectors and settings across the four UK countries, and may also be useful to registrants working at all levels.
Whether you are developing your own role, supporting others or designing services, the new content can inform and support your work to safely and effectively optimise the knowledge and skills of experienced practitioners for the benefit of service users and the wider system.
