Christine Elliott reappointed as HCPC Chair

25 Aug 2022

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is delighted to announce the reappointment of Christine Elliott as its Chair.

Christine was first appointed as Chair of the HCPC in February 2019. Since then, she has overseen and supported multiple strategic initiatives, including the organisation’s first five-year Corporate Strategy, its first EDI Strategy and the FTP Improvement Programme.

She has also chaired the HCPC throughout a time of unprecedented challenges and upheaval due to the pandemic, powerfully advocating for the reform and enhancement of professional healthcare regulation.

Christine Elliott, Chair of the HCPC said:

"I am honoured to have been reappointed Chair of the HCPC.

"The impact of the pandemic over the last two years has been truly challenging for everyone throughout the organisation and for our hard-working registrants and the wider health and care service.

"Despite that, we have made progress at the HCPC, but I know there is much more to do if we are to secure the changes and improvements we all want to see. Together with Council members and our Executive team, I will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that the HCPC invests in providing the high level of patient safety and public protection that is expected of us, and the smooth and efficient service that our registrants need and deserve."

John Barwick, Chief Executive and Registrar of the HCPC said:

"I am delighted that Christine has been reappointed as Chair. She has been instrumental in our development and improvement in recent years and has provided a steady hand during the upheaval of the pandemic.

"Her clarity of thought, strategic vision and sheer energy are real assets to the HCPC, and much appreciated by me and the team here. I look forward to working closely with her as we continue our improvement journey and achieve our ambition of being a high performing, compassionate regulator."

Christine's new term of office will run for four years from 28 February 2023.
