HCPC launches the Be Sure campaign, urging people to check the Register

28/10/2013 - 09:00

Be Sure campaign lunch

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) has launched its ‘Be Sure’ campaign aimed at care and nursing home staff and residents as well as carers and older people.

Using a short film drama the campaign is designed to raise awareness of HCPC’s role in regulating key health and care professionals. In particular, we want to help people understand the importance of checking that a professional is registered and explain how to raise a concern.

This is particularly important for professions who work with the public directly such as social workers in England, hearing aid dispensers, chiropodists / podiatrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and dietitians.

To launch the campaign, the HCPC will be screening the film at the National Care Forum conference on 28-29 October. The HCPC will also be at the Care Show in Birmingham on 12-13 November.

HCPC Chair, Anna van der Gaag said:

“There are hundreds of thousands of health and care professionals working in care homes, hospitals or clinics, on the high street and in people’s own homes.  The vast majority of these professionals are practising safely and legally.

“However, this is not always the case and not all of these individuals are registered. On the very rare occasion that a professional on our Register does not meet our standards, we can take action which might include stopping them from practising. We also can take action if someone pretends to be registered when they are not.

The film is a powerful tool through which to convey an important message to the public. Everyone should check our Register  - just to be sure.”

Anyone can check whether their health and care professional is registered with the HCPC by going to
