We currently regulate 16 health and care professions, click on each profession for more details:

Arts therapists, biomedical scientists, chiropodists / podiatrists, clinical scientists, dietitians, hearing aid dispensers, occupational therapists, operating department practitioners, orthoptists, paramedics, physiotherapists, practitioner psychologists, prosthetists / orthotists, radiographers, social workers in England, speech and language therapists.

Practitioner psychologists

Psychology is the scientific study of people, the mind and behaviour. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behaviour.

Occupational psychologist
Practitioner psychologist
Registered psychologist
Sport and exercise psychologist

A registrant in this part of the Register may use the title 'practitioner psychologist' and / or 'registered psychologist'. They will also be entitled to use one or more of the domain-specific titles, depending on their individual registration.

The profession of psychology is divided into seven areas or ‘domains’ of practice. The domains that will be regulated are:


Clinical psychologists
Counselling psychologists
Educational psychologists
Forensic psychologists
Health psychologists
Occupational psychologists
Sport and exercise psychologists

Professional bodies:

Each of the professions regulated by us has at least one professional body and / or association. These organisations do work which may include promoting the profession, representing members, curriculum frameworks, post registration education and training and continuing professional development. Whilst these organisations are separate from the HCPC, their role may be complementary to ours, which is why we have provided their contact details below:
