Council, Remuneration Committee, People and Resources Committee
Registrant Council Member, Senior Council member
The youngest child of a family of Scottish Showmen, David spent his early years travelling around Scotland and Northern England with the Funfairs. His family ‘settling down’ in a large council estate when he was seven years old meant he was the first in the family to have genuine educational opportunities.
David is a registered clinical scientist and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. He is currently the Director of Healthcare Science for Public Services Delivery Scotland (previously NHS National Services Scotland). Prior to this he was a Consultant Clinical Scientist for NHS Lothian and the Scottish Government national professional lead for Healthcare Science. Before joining the NHS he was involved in research at the University of Texas, and the Imperial Cancer Research Fund.
David is also a member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (Scotland Committee) a lay member of the House of Commons Select Committee on Standards, and clinical advisor to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman.
In his non-professional life, David is a keen gardener, an enthusiastic (if not proficient) mandolin player, and is committed to ensuring his new London-based Grandson develops a Scottish accent.
