Search for the next Chair of the HCPC begins

22 Meh 2026

We are launching the search for the next Chair of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

After a successful eight years as our Chair, Christine Elliott is in the last year of her tenure. As we look to build on the successes seen under her stewardship, we’re seeking to appoint a Chair to lead our Council, in support of the delivery of our new Corporate Strategy 2026-2031.

We have made strong progress in recent years: modernising our standards, improving digital services, sharing data to support workforce planning, and continuing to strengthen how we handle concerns.

Our new strategy builds on this foundation to make regulation more agile, support professionals to adapt to new care models, and use technology to improve patient safety and experience.

The role of Chair will involve leading the Council to oversee delivery of this strategy, ensuring effective governance, while fostering a culture grounded in our values. Working closely with Council members, the Chief Executive and Registrar and the executive team, a key part of the role is to maintain clear accountability between governance and delivery.

Acting as an ambassador for the HCPC, the Chair also helps to build trust and credibility with stakeholders across the UK and internationally, while also steering the organisation to deliver on our clear and demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

We welcome applications from:

  • registrant and lay candidates
  • candidates across all four nations
  • individuals with substantial chairing/board-level leadership experience.
