The HCPC student competition received a record number of entries this year, with the judges noting that the overall standard was high across the entries.

The student competition is open to all students on HCPC-approved programmes in the UK. This year, students were invited to create a learning session exploring registrants' duties around speaking up and raising concerns.

The winners were formally awarded their prizes by the HCPC Council today, 4 December 2025. The HCPC’s Council, which consists of 12 members led by the Chair, directs the work of the HCPC. The Council reviewed the winning entries and noted that they tackled this important subject matter excellently.

You can view the three winning entries on our student hub now. They'll also be shared with other students via their education programme leads.

Judges’ feedback

Samehah Chowdhury, studying BSc Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Brighton

'The session has clear, well-defined learning objectives and effectively addresses each one. It is highly engaging, using varied teaching techniques such as case studies, group work, scenarios, and quizzes. The presentation is creative, combining visuals with interactive activities, and it flows well, enhancing clarity and understanding. Overall, it is a strong, clear, and engaging session that successfully meets its objectives.'

Samehah wins the first prize of a £300 voucher.

Haien Chen, completing the Scientist Training Programme in Genomics at the National School of Healthcare Science

'The session is clearly structured with well-defined learning objectives and aligns strongly with them. It is engaging, interactive, and creative, using quizzes, scenarios, group work, and an appealing presentation style. The content is clear and informative, and the format is simple and effective. The only area for improvement is expanding the section on approaches to raising concerns, which could be developed further. Overall, it is considered a strong, well-executed session'

Haien wins a £150 voucher.

Hannah Standing, studying Paramedic Science at Keele University

'The session is very well structured, with clear, well-designed learning objectives that are effectively embedded throughout. It delivers the SPEAK Up model clearly, using creative graphics and a strong acronym-based structure. The presentation is engaging and flows well, though it could benefit from more interactive activities spread throughout rather than concentrated at the end. Overall, it is an excellent, impactful session that provides clear examples, useful scenarios, and leaves learners feeling confident.'

Hannah wins a £150 voucher.

Next year

The student competition will run again in 2026, with the theme announced early in the year.

The competition will be announced on the HCPC website, and sent to all UK approved education providers, who can inform their cohorts.
