John McEvoy

Council, Remuneration committee , People and Resources Committee

Lay Council member, People and Resources Committee Chair, Remuneration Committee Chair

John worked in primary care for over 20 years, including as one of the first non-medical partners in a GP partnership. Alongside this, he held Chief Executive and Director roles in related organisations delivering community pharmacy services, healthcare education, and collaborative initiatives.

The son of a single-parent social worker in the industrial North West of England, John has a longstanding interest in health inequalities, and much of his work has focused on regions where these challenges are most acute. During his time in general practice, he led projects to open new GP surgeries in under-doctored areas and supported failing practices, preventing closure and improving regulatory standards. He also played a senior leadership role during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the safe delivery of primary care, pharmacy, and vaccination services in high-need communities. In recognition of this work, John received a commendation from the RCGP.

Prior to this, John completed a full career in the armed forces, predominantly with the RAF Regiment, holding senior operational leadership appointments in extremely challenging environments, including deployment with the United Nations. He received an Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief’s commendation for his leadership.

John has a passion for mountaineering and climbing, leading trips and expeditions across the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Americas. He now lives in the Highlands of Scotland, where he is a member of the local Mountain Rescue Team.

His career reflects a long-standing commitment to public service, spanning military leadership, healthcare delivery, regulation, and voluntary roles.
