Partner roles after the transfer of regulation to Social Work England

2 December 2019 has been set as the date for the transfer of social work regulation to Social Work England

The HCPC is still the regulator of social workers until the transfer, and we will still be contracting social worker partners for your services until the final transfer date.

After the transfer has been completed, we will no longer be able to ask current social worker to provide services. As stated in the Health and Social Work Professions Order 2001*, current or former registrants of the HCPC cannot become lay partners.

We highly value your expertise and the input you provided to the HCPC and we would like to thank you for your service as an HCPC partner.

*[(5A) For the purposes of paragraph (5), “lay member” means a person who is not and never has been— (a) a registrant or registered under the 1960 Act or registered as a social worker in a register kept by the General Social Care Council, the Care Council for Wales, the Scottish Social Services Council or the Northern Ireland Social Care Council;]
