Consultation on our proposals for post-registration qualifications

01/11/2010 - 01/02/2011

This consultation has now closed. You can download a document summarising the responses we received and the decisions we are making as a result below.

Since the consultation closed, we have agreed a position statement setting out our approach to annotating post-registration qualifications on our Register. That position statement is available here.

Our Council has also agreed, after considering the responses to the consultation and other information, that we will annotate  qualifications in podiatric surgery on our Register. There is more information about that decision here.

Our Council has also agreed, after considering the responses to the consultation and other information, that we will not annotate  qualifications in clinical neuropsychology on our Register. There is more information about that decision here.

We are consulting on our proposals for post-registration qualifications.

Post-registration qualifications are those which individuals undertake once they are registered with us. They often allow registrants to extend their scope of practice into areas not covered by their initial pre-registration training. In some circumstances we are required by law to ‘annotate’ post-registration qualifications on our Register so that members of the public or employers can check that an individual has the necessary qualification.

We are consulting on criteria that we will use to decide whether we annotate a post-registration qualification on our Register. We are seeking the views of stakeholders to assist us in shaping the draft criteria which we will use to make decisions about whether a qualification is annotated. We are also seeking the views of stakeholders on potentially annotating qualifications in neuropsychology and podiatric surgery on our Registers.

We are inviting all stakeholders with an interest to respond to this consultation. We will consider your comments carefully and use these comments both to help us to shape our criteria and also to help us to decide whether to annotate these post-registration qualifications. We look forward to receiving your response.
